Resources for Adding Sexuality and Gender Items to State and Local Youth Risk Behavior Surveys
The All Students Count Coalition believes that by collecting data on aspects of young people’s sexuality and gender—such as identity, behavior, and expression—state and local education agencies, along with their health and community partners, will be able to tailor policies and programs to better meet the needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning (GLBTQ) and gender non-conforming youth to promote health and academic success. The Coalition encourages state and local education agencies to include questions on their Youth Risk Behavior Surveys (YRBS) about same-sex behavior, sexual identity, and gender expression.
The All Students Count Coalition is composed of Advocates for Youth, AIDS United, American School Health Association, Center for American Progress, Gay, Lesbian, & Straight Education Network (GLSEN), Gay-Straight Alliance Network (GSA Network), National Association for County and City Health Officials (NACCHO); National Coalition for LGBT Health; Sexuality Information and Education Council of the U.S. (SIECUS), The Trevor Project; and other health, education, and advocacy organizations.
