If you didn’t know December 1st was World AIDS day and pretty much the whole month is devoted to awareness of the disease. Earlier this month I attended a candle light walk. It was actually really fun and I had a blast. I met a lot of great people, some of whom were effected with the disease. The speakers were also very inspirational. Did you know that only 1/3 of the people who actually have AIDS are being treated with the proper medication? Roughly 1.1 million Americans are currently living with the disease. Did you also know that of all the new cases tested 1 out of 4 is an adolescent (13-24 years of age)? Florida ranks third in the nation with the number of people living with AIDS/HIV. Most people with the disease don’t know. Which is why it is so important to get tested and know your status.
