My name is Brenna, and I’m a SafeSite at Clark University this year!
Let me start off by introducing myself. I’m a first-year at Clark, working on self-designing a major at the intersection of women’s and gender studies, psychology, political science, studio art, and screen studies. I don’t have a name for it yet, but it’s something like activism centered around feminism and redefining masculinity through documentary-work and writing and possibly research. It sounds like a lot, but it really boils down to my desire to be a combination of Jackson Katz, Jean Kilbourne, and Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
I’m involved in Choices, the safe-sex and reproductive health club on campus (fun fact: Choices was the first club of its kind in the United States, and it was founded in, no joke, 1969.) I’m also involved in VOX, which is Clark’s Voices of Planned Parenthood. Currently, we’re planning a carnival-like event called SexFest, for the second weekend in November. This year’s theme is Sex in Space, so I’ll be going as a crew member of the starship Enterprise.
Aside from school activities, I’m a photographer (mainly experimental photography and self-portraits) and a cook (catering to my extremely stringent food restrictions).
I’m working on designing a short sex ed/consent schpeil that I can give to students at floor meetings before showering them in condoms. So far, it includes a condom usage demonstration, some basic information about STIs, and a structured conversation about consent. I want to include something else, maybe a short game, so if you have any ideas, please let me know!
I’m looking forward to sharing my distribution process with all of you!
