Yesterday I came upon a story that warmed the cockles of my heart. Phi Beta Tau, an Emerson College fraternity, banded together to raise money for a transitioning brother. The money will go towards top surgery for Donnie Collins’ FTM transition. Collins, a sophomore, came out as transgender at the age of 17, after a harrowing experience in an all-girls dorm at boarding school.
Having been barred from using his mother’s insurance, with only trans-exclusionary insurance from his college, Donnie’s options were running out. So what did his wonderful frat brothers do, they started an Indiegogo fund for him. Is that awesome or what?
As of Monday the 25th, fund had already surpassed the original $2,000 goal. And now they’re looking to cover even more of the procedure’s $8,100 cost.
Bravo Phi Alpha Tau! I’ve heard so many horrible stories about fraternities and the general tomfoolery of college men, and I’m glad to see that there are wonderful groups like you all.Categories: Transgender Issues
